The City of Apopka's non-critical facilities will close today at 2pm and re-open on Tuesday, September 12th in preparation for Hurricane Irma according to Apopka Mayor Joe Kilsheimer. This morning, Kilsheimer sent an email to City staff outlining the schedule for the coming days. In the email, he wrote:
"Having seen the forecasts for Hurricane Irma, it looks like this will be a Sunday-Monday event. In light of that, here are our hours for the next few days."
"And a final note: I can’t say thank you enough for all the hard work put in this week by Team Apopka to get the City ready for Hurricane Irma. Please be safe during the storm. We are well prepared, and our location in Central Florida makes us about as safe as we can be in the storm. We are going to be alright, and we have some long days ahead of us. It is times like this when Apopka is at its best: Helping people who need help, and protecting lives and property. I am grateful for each and every member of Team Apopka. Thank you for all you do to serve Apopka’s residents."
