City Council to approve budget, millage at tonight's meeting

The Apopka budget process comes to an official close tonight when the City Council will vote to set the millage rate for the fiscal year 2018-2019 at 4.0376 and adopt the annual budget for the fiscal year 2018-2019.

The proposed FY 2019 budget totals $114,579,804 for all funds, which is a decrease of $10,092,905 or 8.1% over the 2018 budget. The proposed General Fund Budget of $47,820,702 would decrease by $158,000 or .3% compared to last year’s budget.

Council voted 5-0 at its September 5th meeting to approve the millage and adopt the proposed budget.

Mayor Nelson to present awards to students making a difference

Mayor Bryan Nelson will be presenting awards to two students at tonight's Apopka City Council meeting. Christian Redmond and Anthony Torres each raised money from their lemonade stands for worthy causes. Christian raised money for his friend's medical bills and Anthony raised money to feed the homeless. These students went above and beyond to help the community and the Mayor would like to honor them for their efforts. The award presentation is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

The City Council meeting starts at 7 PM tonight at City Hall, 120 East Main Street in Apopka.
