Motorists in Orlando have one more thing to be thankful for this week. The average price for gasoline is now $2.31 per gallon, which is the lowest daily average of 2018.
The metro average has declined for the past 55 consecutive days, delivering a total discount of 46 cents. The downward pressure on prices at the pump is the result of robust oil production and global supplies, which has caused oil prices to plunge by 25 percent.
"This is welcome news for motorists who will be in Orlando for Thanksgiving," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. "The average motorist will save about $7 for a full tank of gas, compared what they paid more than a month ago. This means more money in people's pockets to spend on gifts, hotels, and dining out. These low pump prices may also be extra incentive for undecided travelers to take a last minute trip this Thanksgiving."
AAA forecasts 2.8 million Floridians will travel 50 miles or more for Thanksgiving. Of those, 2.5 million will drive. Gas prices on Thanksgiving Day will average around $2.32 per gallon in Orlando; a 10-cent discount from Thanksgiving Day 2017.
Orlando gas prices were their highest in May when prices at the pump averaged $2.90 per gallon. Compared to that, motorists are now saving 59 cents; the equivalent of nearly $9 for a full tank of gas.
