Apopka slams Steinbrenner 41-15 in 8-A state semifinals

Hoka Hey!

The Apopka Blue Darters continued their unprecedented roll through the 8A playoff tournament with a one-sided victory over the Lutz (near Tampa) Steinbrenner Warriors tonight at Roger Williams Field. The Blue Darters scored five first-half touchdowns and then left it to their unbreakable defense and rolled to a 41-15 victory.

It was the eighth straight win for the Blue Darters, now 12-1 on the season, including two playoff wins on the road against undefeated teams (Bartram Trail and Seminole High Schools).

Apopka will face the Miami Columbus Explorers in the state championship game on December 13th in Daytona Beach. The Explorers, 10-4 on the season, defeated Deerfield Beach 28-21 in their semifinal matchup.

The 2019 state championship will be a rematch of sorts, as Apopka defeated the Explorers in the 2014 state championship 30-23. A victory in Daytona Beach would be Apopka’s fourth state championship.

  1. Since Apopka has won three state championships before, it cannot by definition be an “unprecedented roll” through the playoffs. There is precedent for this.
