Will the Blue Darter locomotive keep rolling?

Posted

20 touchdowns and a 140-7 scoring margin in two games!

They score early. They score often. They swarm on defense, and they break long touchdown runs seemingly at will. They overwhelm opponents, and by halftime the outcome is determined. They are a bullet train blistering down the track and they run over whatever gets in their way.

They are the Apopka High School Blue Darter Football team, and they are on an unprecedented roll.

The #1 (in the Associated Press Class 8A Poll) Blue Darters (2-0) take on the Deland Bulldogs (1-1) tonight at Roger Williams Field. Game time is 7pm. The Bulldogs are coming off a 10-7 win over Daytona Beach Seabreeze after losing to Mainland High School 35-0 in their opener.

Apopka has overwhelmed its first two opponents by unheard of margins. They beat Ocoee 62-7 after scoring 50 first half points. They destroyed Edgewater 78-0 after scoring 64 first half points.

The Blue Darters scored touchdowns on their first eight possessions, including two defensive touchdowns in the first quarter.

The Eagles were held without a first down until midway through the second quarter, and spent more time going backwards than forwards. Edgewater had -60 yards rushing in the game, which included several quarterback sacks.

Senior quarterback Demetri Burch led the way with two rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass to senior running back Deshawn Massey. Jordan Thompson, a senior running back, added two rushing touchdowns, while sophomore running back Cornelius Williams had two rushing touchdowns in the second half.

Last season the Blue Darters beat the Bulldogs 49-7 in Deland.
