Apopka Pop Warner advances, Raptors win championships

Black Friday came early in Apopka.

The 8-and-under team won 19-6/ The 8-and-under Raptors won 19-6.

First, the #1 ranked 9-0 Apopka Blue Darters lost a fourth quarter lead and were eliminated 40-39 in the playoffs to Timber Creek, then the 7-3 Wekiva Mustangs lost to Winter Park 30-21, also being eliminated from the post season.

It was a rough ending to the high school football season in Apopka, but what a difference a day makes.

In the Apopka Pop Warner and Apopka Raptor youth football leagues, championships were won, and playoff hopes advanced.

The 14-and-under Raptors won 22-19. The 14-and-under Raptors won 22-19.

Raptors send five teams to championships

The Apopka Raptors sent an astounding five age brackets to the Florida Youth Football and Cheer League Championships at Lake Nona yesterday, and three of them walked away with wins. The 8-and-under Raptors beat the East Orlando Junior Predators 19-6, the 12-and-under Raptors defeated the East Orlando Junior Predators 20-6, and the 14-and-under Raptors edged the West Volusia Little Hatters 22-19.

The Raptors Flag Team lost to the Seminole Sharks 25-20, and the 12-and- under team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime to the East Orlando Junior Predators 22-14.

The 12-and-under-team won 20-9. The 12-and-under Raptors won 20-9.

All five of these teams also qualified for the AAU League Based National Championships held in Davenport, FL December 14th-18th.

Apopka Pop Warner Pee Wees beat Miami 14-0

The Blue Darters advanced to the finals. The Blue Darters advanced to the finals with a 14-0 win over Miami.

Javon Robinson scored two touchdowns on runs of 55 and 5 yards for the Apopka Blue Darter Pee Wee (ages 10-12) team as they shutout Miami Florida City 14-0 at the Dr. Phillips High School Field in the Pop Warner regional semifinals. Aviance Williams intercepted a pass late in the game to seal the win, which puts the Blue Darters into the regional finals against Jacksonville in two weeks at St. Cloud.

I'm proud of them," said head coach Jeffery Robinson. "26 kids thats have faced with a lot of adversity but still have rose to the top with 4 games to win it all."
