Posted

An Apopka resident died early Sunday morning when he was struck by an automobile on Interstate 95 near Daytona Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to Sergeant Kim Montes, FHP Public Information Officer, Dean Robbins, 51 of Apopka, had been walking southbound, "next to the white line," in the outside lane of the highway. He had been headed to the next exit to pick up gas for his vehicle, which had run out.

Police say Robbins was walking to the exit when the front end of a 2009 Cadillac, driven by 39-year-old Rockil Macon of New Jersey, hit Robbins. The accident occurred near mile marker 264 which is in between two Daytona Beach exits on I-95 at 5:30 a.m., said Montes. The front of the vehicle struck Robbins, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been issued and alcohol is reportedly not a factor. The accident is still under investigation.
