As a Member of Congress, health care is one of my top priorities. If you don't have health insurance through work, Medicare, Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or another source, starting today you can use the Health Care Marketplace to get covered. If you already had coverage through healthcare.gov for 2019, make sure you look at the options for 2020. The available plans may have changed, giving you an opportunity to get better coverage for less money.
As you may know, millions of Americans have used the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to get health insurance. Most Americans qualify for financial assistance to reduce the cost—in fact, almost 90% of people are eligible for a tax credit, and the average final cost of insurance is under $90/month if you qualify. In addition, the ACA made it illegal to discriminate against people who have preexisting conditions. December 15th is the deadline for signing up for health insurance or changing plans for 2020. You can go online or work with a Navigator to see if you can find lower premiums and extra benefits for your health care. See all of the ways to sign up here. As you sign up, please remember that while “short term” plans may seem cheaper, you’re actually likely to pay more. These plans also don’t cover preexisting conditions. Instead, work with a navigator to get comprehensive coverage.
