5 Ways to Sneak in a Workout During the Holidays

Posted

Creative ideas to stay active this Christmas

If you are staying with family during the holidays, or if you are hosting the celebration yourself, you may find that there is not enough time in the day to get everything done. Fitness routines are often cut out of many people’s schedules over the holidays so that they can make time for friends and family. However, the stress of the holidays calls for you to stay active and energetic. Here are 5 ways that you can sneak in a workout during your hectic holiday schedule:

1. Help with the Housework

Offering to help clean up, rake the leaves, etc.. is a good way to fit in some extra activity in your day. You could even offer to walk the dog or play a game with the kids. You will most likely already have cleaning up on your schedule, so you can kill two birds with one stone while also helping out your loved ones.

2. Floor Exercises

If everyone is sitting on the couch watching a movie, you can take that opportunity to get some exercise in. Doing floor exercises like sit-ups, push-ups, and leg lifts are a great way to get your body moving. These exercises are also very quiet, so you will not have to worry about disturbing anyone else.

3.Park Far Away

If holiday shopping is on the itinerary, you have a great chance to sneak in a little bit of physical activity. Try parking far away from the mall and other stores so you have to walk a little farther. You could even do extra laps around the mall while you wait for everyone to finish their shopping.

4.Seasonal Activities

Going outside and jumping in the leaves or simply running around isn’t just for the kids! Get outside yourself and join in on the games and activities. You could also take a trip to go ice skating, that way you are incorporating fun family time in with physical activity.

5.Short Workouts

If you are pressed for time, you can always try to get in short, yet effective workouts. Even 15 minutes of activity is better than sitting all day. If there is any free time before dinner or when everyone else is occupied, try to get your workouts in during those times. You could do a short circuit of jumping jacks, push-ups, and running in place to get the most out of the short time you have.
