Inexpensive ways to decorate for Christmas

Posted

Traditional is the new unique...

During the holidays, we all hope to have time to decorate our homes for the holidays. Getting the inside and outside of our homes decorated really brings out the holiday spirit and its fun to share the cheer with our families and neighbors. Here are several unique ways to use traditional decor in a new way. Plus, these decor ideas don’t cost much money.

Wreaths

Wreaths are a very traditional holiday item, but in recent years, wreaths have evolved and you can now find wreaths made from pretty much anything. From candy cane wreaths to ones shaped like snowmen, you can find a one-of-a-kind wreath that speaks to your holiday personality. You can find options created by crafters on Etsy, like the ones below.

Lights

Traditional lights are always great to use, but some unique light options that have become popular are lanterns, Christmas orbs, and burning bushes. You can utilize lanterns by the front door with candles, either real or LED lights, in some combination of various sizes. Create the Christmas orbs with spheres of grapevines wrapped in lights. The grapevines become shimmering orbs especially during that first snow, and they can be placed in birdbaths, urns, or on stairsteps. For the burning bush, you can take those old tangled lights and place them around the base of your bush that is inside its planter or you can create your own by placing the lights on top of soil and insert branches and dried weeds to create a bush-like appearance.

Red

You can create a festive mailbox by adding flourishes of pine swags attached with wire and embellished with red accents and pinecones. Though snow isn’t a given in middle Tennessee, if we do get snow, it will only help to enhance the look of your mailbox. Complete the accents of Red with door garland, ornaments around the yard, décor for porch furniture, and a snowy sled display. For the garland, take natural garland, position it in place with hooks or brick clips, and decorate with pinecones and red ornaments. Spread the red ornaments around outdoor planters, birch branches, and grapevine balls. On your porch furniture, arrange greenery, pinecones, gazing balls, and ornaments. Then spray the arrangement with a light dusting of fake snow for the extra winter flair. While the fake snow is out, extend it to the sled display which is created with pine sprigs, pine cones, fruit, and a bright red ribbon that ties everything together.

Enjoy this special season with the traditions you love in a new way this season.
