'Tis the season...

The VOICE of Inspiration

By: Don Lindsey

Last night, my daughter and her school’s singing choirs performed their holiday program at light up Kit Land Nelson Park. After another busy week, it was nice to destress a bit by watching her and the rest of the kids belt out some familiar Christmas songs. I'm not interested in Christmas until the week of... unlike my wife who put up our Christmas tree a day or so before Thanksgiving. However, as I listened to the children blend their voices a funny thing happened, I began to get into the Christmas spirit.

I started to get excited about the gifts we’re getting for our kids and trying to predict the reactions they’ll have on Christmas morning. That led me to think about how great it is to have my mother and father living with us now. This holiday season will be the first one in about seven years that we’ve been together on Christmas. I couldn’t help but smile at that thought. I’ve missed them so much and am looking forward to spending time with them.

I also thought a lot about my childhood and the wonderful memories I have of Christmas. The traditions, family, and togetherness, were the things I enjoyed most about the season now that I look back on it. Every Christmas Eve, my mom’s side of the family would meet at my grandmother’s place, and the next day, my siblings would meet over at my mom and dad’s house to visit and help me put together my toys. As I started to miss those times, I was reminded that my wife and I are continuing a lot of those traditions along with starting some of our own that our children will hopefully pass on to their kids.

I have been blessed with a lot in my life. My wife, kids, parents, family, and friends are all reminders of how God has shown His love to me. As I move through the holiday season, preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus, I will spend as much time with and show as much love possible to the people that I love and value. While Tis the season for giving and receiving, it’s also an excellent time to be grateful for the many blessings that the Lord has given us.

I’m still searching for information on local businesses to highlight so if anyone has a suggestion then please use the "comments" section below this article or email me at; lookingforinspirationapv@yahoo.com.

Until next week, God bless.
