Updating Breaking News: Apopka driver involved in fatal collision on turnpike; pedestrian dies

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision that killed a pedestrian in Orange County last night.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:50 pm Tuesday, a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by a  36-year-old Apopka man was traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike approaching mile marker 259, south of State Road 528A (West Oak Ridge Road) in the inside center lane.

At the same time, a 29-year-old Orlando man was walking in an easterly direction and entered the northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike, into the direct path of the Fusion.

The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle and pronounced deceased on the scene.

The driver stayed on the scene and did not report any injuries to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the pedestrian.
