Breaking News Overnight: Apopka bicyclist dies in Lake County collision

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Lake County last night that resulted in the death of a bicyclist from Apopka.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:24 pm Friday, a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by a 28-year-old Apopka man was traveling westbound on State Road 46 east of Deal Drive in Sorrento. At the same time, a 38-year-old Apopka man riding a bicycle was traveling west on the westbound shoulder of SR-46 east of Deal.

As the two approached, the bicyclist began traveling in a southwesterly direction and entered the westbound lane in the direct path of the F-150. As a result, the two vehicles collided. 

The driver of the F-150 and a passenger remained at the collision scene and reported no injuries to the FHP. The bicyclist was pronounced deceased on the scene.

This crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the driver, passenger, or deceased bicyclist.
