Southern Rock Legend coming to Apopka?

Posted

Charlie Daniels is an American music legend. He has deep roots in country, bluegrass and Southern rock music. He is perhaps best known for his number one country hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", and multiple other songs he has written and performed. Daniels has been active as a singer and musician since the 1950s.

He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on January 24, 2008 and the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2009. Daniels was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year. Daniels turned 80 years old this year, but he and his band continue to tour the nation.

And the wheels are in motion for The Charlie Daniels Band to make a tour stop in Apopka.

The Apopka Development Review Committee signed off on the application for a possible March 17th, 2017 concert in Apopka, and City of Apopka Public Information Officer Robert Sargent confirmed the possibility yesterday on the City's Facebook page.

The Charlie Daniels website shows concerts in Jacksonville, Melbourne, and Pompano Beach for mid-March 2017.

During the DRC meeting, David Burgoon and Captain Randall Fernandez of the Apopka Police Department confirmed that the promoter Get Off the Bus had a good track record in its first promotion of Travis Tritt last summer.

"Their last event went well," said Fernandez. "There were no issues."

The event needs to be approved by the Apopka City Council because the promoter plans to sell alcoholic beverages during the concert.
