Scene around town: The aftermath of Matthew

Posted

The curfew was lifted at 2:00 PM today and everyone with cabin fever headed out to survey the effects of Matthew.

Publix on Rock Springs Road was open but not Winn-Dixie on 441.

Duke Energy crews were restoring power near Old Dixie Highway and Vick Road.

The ONLY restaurant open at 4:00 PM was the He Hop Chinese restaurant in the Winn-Dixie plaza. Standing room only.

The traffic lights in on Main Street in downtown Apopka were not working. A generator was being used at Main and Park. Apopka Police officers were controlling traffic at Main and Central as well as Main and Edgewood/Midland.

The most usual damage spotted was a palm tree near the Chase Bank on Main Street that snapped in half.
