Thursday morning will mark the official opening of part of the Wekiva Parkway. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to open the first five miles north of U.S. Highway 441 to Kelly Park Road. Those wishing to attend the 9 a.m. ceremony must enter the Wekiva Parkway at the Kelly Park Road interchange, head south and then head south to the Belgian Street bridge, which is just south of Yothers Road.

The parkway will open some time after a ribbon cutting ceremony from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the Belgian Street bridge. The ceremony will include remarks from area dignitaries highlighting the history and significance of this long-awaited mobility solution.

Sections 1A and 1B total about five miles and $102.6 million in construction costs. Work began in the summer of 2015. This section of the parkway is expected to provide a much-needed alternative to local roads, including Plymouth Sorrento Road.
