Prayer can change the world

“The effectual, fervent prayers of the righteous accomplishes much.”

James 5:16.

When we consider all of the nasty, ugly, smelly stuff that is happening in the world, things that we like to think wouldn’t have happened in another, simpler, time, perhaps in another age, we are wrong.

If we look back in history bad stuff has been happening almost from the beginning. Does that negate God’s existence? Or diminish his power in any way? I don’t think so. Instead, it is evidence of His great love for humankind.

You might ask, “how can that be?” So I will tell you. We have been created with free will. We can choose good, or evil. The very fact that there is yet so much good in the world is proof, at least to me, that He is. And because He is, there is hope.

There is so much beauty surrounding us if we will only open our eyes and see. Consider something. In James 5:16 we read, and I paraphrase;

“The effectual, fervent prayers of the righteous accomplishes much.”

Now that is a promise from the Father. Can you imagine how dark and bleak this world would be if nobody was praying? And I also believe that verse is a summons to God’s children, to you and me. Perhaps, just perhaps, we are being called by God to pray. Could it possibly be that God is laying that “effectual fervent prayer” thing squarely on our shoulders. Nah, probably not, because that verse also tells us that it is the effectual, fervent prayer of the righteous that accomplishes much, and we know that we aren’t very righteous.

But, and this is the biggy, we can take upon ourselves the righteousness of Jesus, therefore we could be righteous, and when I say we, I mean, us, you and me. Just imagine what our prayers could accomplish if we really believed that?

Live fully,

Love openly,

Love God, and make a difference, today
