Plane crashes at Tangerine Airport

According to OCSO Public Information Officer Jeff Williamson, Deputies received a call at 11:53 a.m. of a plane down in the area of Cemetery Road in Zellwood. It appears the plane had mechanical issues and crashed shortly after takeoff. The Pilot received minor injuries from the crash, but was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Update:

The small plane went down less than a half-mile east of the end of the Tangerine Airport runway, just north of the Valley Senior Mobile Home Community on Round Lake Road.

Original Story

A small plane with a pilot and no passengers on board crashed shortly after takeoff this morning according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The accident occurred at the Tangerine Airport near Kelly Park and Round Lake Roads.

The small private airport with a single runway is in unincorporated Orange County north of Zellwood and is owned and managed by James Kimball. The pilot suffered only minor bruises, according to the OCSO.

No other information has been released. The Apopka Voice will update this story as further details are known.
