Inspiration

By Charles Towne

Are you happy with where you are in life? More importantly, let’s put it another way, are you contented with WHO you are?

You, if you are like me, have likely endeavored to make some changes that you know would aid you in becoming a better, happier, healthier, more fulfilled you, but sooner or later you discover yourself slipping and sliding back into the quagmire and corruption of old habits, the old you.

We are, after all, creatures of habit, and I am here to tell you, the devil takes advantage of this fact. Change is not something we take kindly too. Change, becoming transformed, taking on a different character other than who I have been all my life, is strange, and strange is uncomfortable, out of the norm, even painful for a time. But believe me, it is worth it. In the beginning of Dr. Phil McGraw’s life strategies workbook, the author writes, “Books don’t change people, people change people.” I agree with his statement that books don’t change people, oh, they may serve as a catalyst for change but no more, but, my life experience has taught me that people, though they may inspire, even motivate us to change, they don’t change us either.

I believe, and this is from my life experience, genuine, life-altering change, can only be ignited and fanned into flame by a spark from the divine. In other words, we cannot, by will alone, become something that we are not. Only God can transform an earthy, carnal character into something good, pure, kind, loving, and patient.

The transformation of a man’s character is no less a miracle than a caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly. For us, you and I, to break free of the chrysalis of sin into glory? Oh my, how beautiful! The root meaning of the word, change is, to cut off; to cut off that which offends, or to separate yourself from that which is offensive, therefore, real, genuine change calls for passionate commitment. Are you ready for change?

Charles Towne is first and foremost a Christian. An octogenarian, author, journalist, wildlife photographer, naturalist, caregiver, and survivor, his life has been and continues to be, a never-ending adventure filled with possibilities never imagined. He has adopted the philosophy that to Live fully, laugh uproariously, love passionately, and learn like there is no tomorrow, is a formula for a long and joy-filled life.
