The Tournament

The Copa América Centenario is a scheduled international men's association football (soccer) tournament held in the United States in 2016. This is the first Copa América hosted outside of South America.

The tournament will be the 45th edition of Copa América since its inception in 1916. It will be held as part of an agreement between CONMEBOL (the South American football confederation) and CONCACAF (the football confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean) as a special edition between the usual four-year cycle, and will feature an expanded field of 16 teams.

Costa Rica vs. Paraguay Preview

Costa Rica is no Copa America slouch, with this year’s historic edition marking their fifth appearance in the competition. Los Ticos put the world on notice with their run to the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals and continue to be a thorn in the side for many bigger soccer nations.

Paraguay has won Copa America twice but haven’t tasted tournament triumph since 1979. They’ve come close in recent editions, falling in the finals to Uruguay in 2011 and finishing fourth 2015.
