Mustangs remain atop state poll; Apopka moves to 4th

After their season-opening games, both the Apopka Blue Darters and Wekiva Mustangs remain in the Associated Press top 10 poll for Class 8A schools in Florida. Wekiva (1-0), coming off a 17-3 opening game victory over Jones High School, remain #1 in the poll. The Blue Darters (1-0), coming off a 47-0 trouncing of Ocoee in its opening game, moved up one slot to #4 in the poll.

Wekiva (1-0) travels to Georgia next week to play North Gwinnett High School in the finale of the Freedom Bowl. North Gwinnett won the Class 7-A Georgia state championship last season and is ranked #48 nationally in the High School Football America Top 100 poll. They are currently 1-0 after a 37-2 victory over Brookwood (Ga.) in its season opener.

The Blue Darters head to St. John's, Florida (near Jacksonville) to play the Bartram Trail Bears next Friday. The Bears finished last season 11-4, making it to the state finals (7-A). They are currently 1-0 on the 2018 season after defeating Brunswick (Ga.) 35-12 in its opener.
