Women, Minority & Veterans Business (WMVB) Networking Lunch

"The forum will be of particular interest to skilled labor organizations such as general contractors, plumbers, carpenters and others," said Rod Love, Apopka business owner and host of the event. "This is a great opportunity for local business owners to learn about the opportunities available for minority-owned businesses."

Love told The Apopka Voice that the seats for the event are filling rapidly. The deadline for making a reservation is Tuesday, November 1st.

Love also announced that Orange County Commissioner Bryan Nelson assisted him in arranging for the Orange County Business Development Division and the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund to make presentations at the event. Due to the number of social service organizations RSVP’s, the Orange County Citizen Commission for Children will provide a brief informational presentation as well.

“There will be a special presentation by VaSantha “Tonya” Raysor,” said Love. “Raysor is the Business Development Division Administrator for Orange County. She will be providing information about Orange County’s Certified Minority/Women Business Enterprise (WMBE) initiative. I personally sat through the 2 hour WMBE workshop facilitated by Orange County Government and the City of Orlando and l must say, both Mayor Jacobs and Mayor Dyer have much to be proud of because of the national implications of these initiatives that leave footprints of definitive job creation and business growth. I was impressed!”

Participants will also hear from Jerrie Safford, owner of Apopka-based Imaxx Plumbing Services. He will tell the forum participants how the WMBE inititative help him grow to become one of the most successful minority-owned businesses in Central Florida.

The event is expected to draw owners of Apopka-area businesses that are owned by minorities (MBE), women (WBE), and veterans (VBE).

The WMVB Networking Lunch will be held on Thursday, November 3rd from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at The Catfish Place (311 South Forest Avenue, Apopka).

The event is free, but there is limited space and advance reservations are required. Interested business owners should reserve their place by sending an email to: BusinessRSVP@comsg.net

Corporations, the federal government, state agencies, and most municipalities all want to do business with minority-owned companies. To meet their objectives, private and public sector firms actively search for certified minority-owned businesses. If you're not certified, you can miss out on business ranging from a marketing opportunity to reduced-competition access to public contracts.

More than $11 Million was awarded to M/WBE subcontractors in the areas of construction, professional services, and goods & services by the City of Orlando in 2015.

During the last five years the combined contract awards for Orlando-certified M/WBE subcontractors in construction, professional services and goods & services was nearly $51 Million. Of this amount minority-owned firms were awarded $39.3 Million and women-owned firms were awarded $11.6 Million
