Tonight from 7 pm to 8 pm LET’S TALK ABOUT IT with Rod Love and Greg Jackson will have a candid discussion about the need to recruit and train community-based leadership with fresh ideas in a series entitled “Building the Bench.” Guest Paul Stevens, President of Circle of Friends will contribute to the topic of the deafening silence in communities that experience high rates of crime, unemployment, and equitable distribution of government resources to address what ails these communities at the grassroots level. Love and Jackson believe the time is now to develop vigorous community-based leaders to address the evolving societal issues. They believe this can only be accomplished through an organized and structured process, inclusive of everyone willing to participate.
By “Building the Bench” Love and Jackson hope to also address the topics of the misuse and redirection of community redevelopment taxpayer dollars by government entities where dollars are focused on downtown development versus the vital need for affordable housing or even community police innovations to address crime. These efforts will help to avoid the embarrassing insults that the City of Jacksonville is experiencing as evidenced in “Walking While Black.” http://jacksonville.com/
