First time on Orlando Magazine's list

Apopka Mayor Joe Kilsheimer has power. He is mayor of the second largest city in Orange County, on the Board of The Lake Apopka Natural Gas District, and now on Orlando Magazine’s "50 Most Powerful People in Central Florida" list published this week. This is a list they have published since 2001.

The magazine draws from a diverse group of industries and categories to compile its top 50. The categories are Government and Politics, Tourism and Transportation, Education, Entertainment and The Arts, Business, Philanthropy and Community Voices; and 15 to watch.

“Power is a lot like real estate. It’s all about location, location, location. The closer you are to the source, the higher your property value.”

-President Frank Underwood/House of Cards

Apopka Mayor Joe Kilsheimer qualified on the “15 to watch” category. This is his first time on the list.

“I am honored to be included with such good company,” said Kilsheimer.

That company includes two other mayors - Buddy Dyer of Orlando and Teresa Jacobs of Orange County. Also included are Philanthropist Harris Rosen, UCF President John Hitt, and 4Rivers Restaurant Founder John Rivers. Former Apopka City Attorney Frank Kruppenbacher is listed as #4 in the politics section.

Orlando Magazine wrote of Kilsheimer:

“Apopka’s mayor since 2014, Kilsheimer continues to stand the old-guard mentality on its head. His vision for Orange County’s second-largest city includes developing a vibrant city center and making the area an eco-tourism destination.”
