Dexter Hughley, the Apopka resident shot in his apartment three nights ago, is in critical condition at a local hospital according to a spokesperson for the Hughley family. He has been through two surgeries, and continues to fight for his life.

Lisa Jennings, Hughley's sister, wants Apopka residents to know what a treasure her brother is.

"I want everyone to understand what a great person Dexter is," she said. "He's an extremely caring person. He always looks for the good

in people. He always gives people second, third and fourth chances. He's a good person and has a heart of gold."

"This is a very strong Christian family," Yvonne Ballaera said on behalf of the Hughleys. "They are putting it in God's hands, but this is difficult for them."

It has been an unimaginably traumatic week for the Hughley family.

Hughley's mother, Iola G. Hughley, 72 of Apopka, died on October 26th. Her funeral was this afternoon. Three days earlier, Hughley, 46, was shot multiple times at his Orange North apartment on West Orange Blossom Trail. His car was found intentionally set on fire near the corner of Fifth Street and Hawthorne Avenue in Apopka that same evening by officers of the Apopka Police Department.

The APD is looking for multiple persons of interest who may be tied to the shooting of Hughley.

Hughley is a well-known Apopka resident, and frequently went out of his way to help others according to the Apopka Police Department. He is the manager of Wendy's Restaurant on Main Street in Apopka, and was a member of many church choirs.

The Hughley family has started a gofundme.com page that is being facilitated by Jennings.

The APD is working active leads, but they are still looking for information from the public. Anyone with information is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS, or the Apopka Police Department.
