Posted

Update from a JHIT Report:

During the course of this investigation it was determined that the initial statement provided by the homeowner, 46-year-old Charles Aikens, did not include all of the facts regarding the circumstances leading to this deadly incident. The initial call by Aikens for a police response was for an alleged home invasion being committed by unknown subjects and Aikens alleged he was awakened by the front door being kicked in and his house alarm being activated.

The investigation revealed the deceased female victim, Jasmine Mcafee 24, was actually called repeatedly by Aikens from an ad for a massage (often indicating

prostitution). In response to being contacted by Aikens, Mcafee was provided directions to his residence and upon arrival was invited inside the house. Evidence was obtained indicating at some point Mcafee contacted the males who drove her to the house and were waiting in a car in the driveway.

Mcafee indicated she needed help and alleged she was being prohibited from leaving by Aikens. Out of concern for Mcafee's safety, the two males who drove her to the location, attempted to cause a distraction allowing Mcafee to get out of the house but eventually kicked in the front door. Furthermore, additional details provided by Aikens regarding the actual shooting were not corroborated by the physical evidence obtained during this investigation.

Based on the outcome of the investigation to include statements and physical evidence, Charles Aikens has been arrested and charged with Second degree murder with a firearm, 2 counts of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, shooting into an occupied vehicle and prostitution.

The JHIT version of the event is similar to an incident involving McAfee in North Carolina in April 2014, according to a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department report:

“A victim on Dehavill and Drive called a prostitute to his house. The victim turned down her services when she did not look as described in the ad, but the suspect still demanded payment.

When the victim attempted to get the suspect to leave, 3 males showed up and one of them hit him in the head with a piece of wood. Maurice Hunter and Jasmine McAfee we’re both arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.”
