Apopka police will continue operations during fumigation

The APD will provide law enforcement services during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend while its administrative building undergoes fumigation treatment for dry wood termites.

The police station offices at 112 E. Sixth St. in downtown Apopka will close at 2 p.m. Friday, May 26, to begin pest control fumigation for the termites. The two-story, 302,600-square-foot structure will be covered with a large tent for up to three days of treatment. The parking area will be closed to vehicles. The police station will re-open at 7 a.m.Tuesday, May 30. The police offices would normally be closed over the holiday weekend and citizens should notice no impact in their emergency services.

There will be no interruption in patrol services during the treatment period although citizens should not go to the police station. Apopka’s emergency dispatch center is located at a remote location and will not be impacted by the fumigation.

Citizens needing police services should continue to use 911 for all police, fire and medical emergencies. For non-emergencies, call (407) 703-1757. Police officers will continue to respond to the callers’ locations.

Signs of the tiny termites were identified earlier this year while the police department was making building improvements such as new carpets. The city requested three quotes for pest treatment. Orkin Pest Control will conduct services for $21,900.
