God's perspective in the storms of life

Perspective could be defined as our perception of things based upon our angle of view. Our perspective can determine both our outlook and outcome in life.

This morning as I was walking my dogs I "perceived" this truth. Due to the recent hurricane there is much debris along our usual walkway. I observed as both Bella, our boxer, and Milo, our yorkie, walked in front of me. Bella seemed unmoved at certain things while Milo would stop and ponder. He would deviate back-and-forth on the path, and as I encouraged him to keep walking it suddenly hit me: his perspective was affecting his walk. What to Bella and to me seemed to be but small debris, Milo perceived as a mountain. Then we continued to walk and came against great piles that have been piled up. Bella too stopped at this obstacle not knowing how to get around and turned to look at me for direction. Where usually we would walk straight on the path I knew we could merely go around what seemed to her an impassable mountain.

Now neither of my dogs are fearful by nature, especially the yorkie, who in his mind is a big dog. However, their perspective affected their walk and could have limited their outcome. But being both taller and wiser and having walked the path myself, I knew what they didn't and was able to steer them around it.

They just had to trust me.

So it is for us with God. Here we on earth view the aftermath from the storm. We have a limited perspective of yesterday, and even more limited view of tomorrow. But God can see both clearly, and is much wiser than we. His perspective is from above the storm, and he knows how to lead us around the obstacles.

The more we learn to trust him in times like these the lighter the leash can be. The more limited our perspective, and the more dangerous the situation, we need to draw closer to the one who's perspective is greater than ours. We need to listen to his voice and obey him as he only has our good at heart.

Even beyond this, he has sent to us the Holy Spirit who is with us always. As we learn to hear his voice he will guide us through the storm, keep us safe, and lead us to our destination. In fact if you allow him, he will pick you up about the storm and help you see things from heaven's perspective.

So whatever the storm of life, or mountain that stands in your way, put your trust in God and let him change your perspective. You will see life in a whole new way and never be afraid of the storm again.
