Florida Hospital breaks ground on medical office building

Posted

The 72,000-square-foot building will house physicians of various specialties treating both adults and children.

Elected officials and members of the community joined Florida Hospital leaders and staff today to break ground on a new, 72,000-square-foot medical office building that will serve the residents of fast-growing west Orange County. The building is expected to open in the spring of 2018.

The groundbreaking takes place one year after Florida Hospital Winter Garden opened (February 15th, 2016). Since that time, more than 23,000 patients have received emergency services at the hospital, illustrating the need for health care in the area.

“In addition to the high demand for emergency care, we have also seen great demand for primary and specialty health care services,” said Amanda Maggard, campus CEO of Florida Hospital Winter Garden. “This building will allow us to further gather physicians of various specialties in one central location and offer even more outpatient services right here in West Orange.”

The MOB marks the next phase in Florida Hospital Winter Garden’s growth. It will be followed by the construction of a seven-story inpatient tower, a project that will break ground in 2018.

Dr. Stacy McConkey, medical director of the Florida Hospital Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, said local physicians and patients are looking forward to the building opening next year.

“By bringing so many services under one roof, we’re ensuring that West Orange has close-to-home access to a wide range of excellent health care options,” McConkey said.

Florida Hospital Winter Garden has also benefited the local economy through job creation, as Mayor John Rees noted.

“The first phase of the hospital added 200 direct jobs, and this building is expected to have a similar impact,” Rees said. “Once the inpatient beds are added in the coming years, the impact will be even bigger.”
