Immigrants and workers march in Apopka for dignity, respect, and rights

Hundreds of Central Floridians will take to the streets to participate in a march and rally on Monday to stand against hateful rhetoric that promotes racism and discrimination. Farmworkers, students, families, laborers, business owners, and other hard-working contributing Floridians will rise up in resistance to demonstrate the power, resilience, and strength of immigrants and workers in communities in Central Florida in solidarity with actions around the state and around the country on May 1st – International Workers Day.

What: March and Rally for Immigrant and Worker Rights

When: Monday, May 1st, 2017 from 2 pm - 6 pm

Where: Apopka, FL at Kit Land Nelson Park, 10 S Forest Avenue

Organized by: The Farmworker Association of Florida, Hope CommUnity Center, and Mi Familia Vota

“Most of Florida’s agriculture industry and rural economy is sustained by the work and contributions of farmworkers and their families,” says Tirso Moreno, General Coordinator of the Farmworker Association of Florida. “On May Day we are sending a message loud and clear to all local elected leaders and to the American public inviting them to value farmworker and immigrant communities.”

Other organizations participating include: Central Florida Jobs with Justice, Farmworker Self-Help, Young American Dreamers, Youth and Young Adult Network of the National Farm Worker Ministry, Organize Florida, and the Florida Immigrant Coalition
