Dollops of love

Aren’t memories magical?

Think of it... memories sort of work like a time machine, transporting us through space and time, enabling us to relive, even if but for a moment, the past.

So much of what I write is taken from the fertile, well fertilized soil of my memory. And that thought takes me back to when I was just a tad about the size of a runty pollywog. I remember mama baking cookies in the oven of the old wood burning cook-stove. She would create dollops of cookie dough and give each a tiny twist, so they possessed their own distinctive little curlicue caps, and then she would place those scrumdiddlyicious bits of love on the old, well used, greased cookie sheets which she popped into the hot oven.

Even as they baked, those morsels of sweet love from mama’s work worn hands assailed our nostrils with promises of toothsome delights.

Oh, the delicious smell of those cookies is wafting through the halls of my memory still. In the hot oven those morsels of cookie dough would be transformed into succulent, mouth watering cookies which even now, after all these years I can smell and taste. Yep, each one was distinctively one of mama’s cookies, and delicious it was too.

Now I have to ask you, how in the world could a little dollop of cookie dough be remembered for eighty plus years? You want to know something? I think that even though those cookies touched our eyes, our noses, and our taste buds, I believe they touched our hearts even more.

I think that Papa God is sort of like that, serving up sweet little morsels of life and love that caress our hearts with delightful little dollops of memory that we carry with us for a lifetime.

Dear God, thank you so much for my mama, she not only gave me life but she saved me by bringing me to you. And thank you so very much for your undying love. In Jesus’ wonderful and holy name I ask it, Amen.

Live fully, Love openly, and make a difference, today.
