City Council Votes on City Center Contract

Posted

BREAKING NEWS

The Apopka City Council today voted on the proposed sale of public property along U.S. Highway 441 for construction of a city center pending a development agreement with Taurus Southern Investments, LLC. The Council approved the sale by a vote of 4-1. Taurus now has up to 60 days to prepare the development agreement.

"We are in a due diligence stage," said Mayor Joe Kilsheimer. "This will give Taurus time to show what they can do. I recommend we move forward."

Commissioner Diane Velazquez made the motion.

"This has been going on so long," she said. "It's time to take the leap and move ahead with this project."

"I know Taurus' credentials and they are A-1," said Commissioner Bill Arrowsmith; who seconded the motion.

Commissioner Billie Dean cast the lone "no" vote. Dean wanted to attach an interest payment to the contract because of the length of the terms.

"I will not vote for the sale of the land with no interest."

Kilsheimer was pleased with the result.

"We're at the threshold of the next growing phase in Central Florida," he said. "We are all invested in Apopka's future. This is the next step."
