Focus on Congress

From the office of Rep. Val Demings

Haki Nkrumah, the Founder and President of Young Fathers of Central Florida, participated in a Congressional Forum on Fatherhood. The Forum was organized by the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys. Mr. Nkrumah has been a fatherhood mentor for more than a decade and has worked with the City of Orlando, Orange County government and other stakeholders. He was invited by Rep. Val Demings to share his years of expertise as a mentor and advocate for fatherhood and positive role models.

“Haki Nkrumah has been a tireless advocate for young men and families in Central Florida and has mentored our community’s fathers for over a decade," said Demings. "I am glad to have the opportunity to share his experience with my colleagues in Congress. We know that one of the most important things for children is having responsible and loving parents. Yet while many programs focus on young women and mothers, there are few resources available to young men. Mr. Nkrumah’s work to help men and boys transition into responsible parenthood takes us closer to a future in which every child has a stable, loving home and the bright future they deserve.”
