Breaking News from the Apopka Police Department

Demarquis Maurice Prince, 21, has been arrested and charged in the November 2nd shooting of Dexter Hughley.

On November 2nd, Apopka police and fire personnel responded to a vehicle fire in the area of 5th Street and Hawthorne Avenue in Apopka. Upon extinguishing the fire, investigators determined the vehicle belonged to Hughley. Officers attempted to contact Hughley in his residence and found him critically wounded. He was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center by the Apopka Fire Department.

The investigation revealed Hughley had been shot, his vehicle stolen, and purposely burned.

Apopka Police Detectives, with the help of the Apopka community, were able to tie Prince to the crime and have charged him with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Burglary, Home Invasion, as well as other charges. Prince will be processed at the Orange County Jail.
