From the Florida Highway Patrol

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol have just arrested 19-year old Christopher Stephan Lewis, 19 of Apopka, for attempted 1st-degree murder of an FHP Trooper.

At approximately 3:00 am an FHP trooper attempted to stop a 2014 Toyota Corolla westbound on SR 50, just west of Orange Avenue. The Corolla was forced to stop at the train tracks, as a train was coming through the area.

The male driver of the vehicle immediately exited the vehicle and fled on foot, while Lewis, the passenger, remained in the vehicle. The trooper chased the driver on foot. The driver eventually returned to the Corolla, where the trooper attempted to physically detain him.

Lewis moved into the driver seat and attempted to drive away, dragging both the trooper and the original driver. The original driver was able to get back into the vehicle and the trooper disengaged after being drug along the ground for approximately 100 feet.

Lewis was originally the front, right passenger in the Toyota when the vehicle stopped. He took control of the vehicle and dragged both the trooper and the suspect.

Lewis will be booked into the Orange County jail this afternoon.

Troopers have also identified the original driver and a juvenile that was in the back seat. The driver is cooperating with troopers. The juvenile was released to his parents after being charged with obstruction for lying.

He will make an appearance in juvenile court at a later date.

This is a breaking story and will be updated by The Apopka Voice as more details are known.
