At Wednesday’s City Council meeting, the Apopka High School Boy’s Bowling team were honored for their third consecutive state high school championship. This is the first time in the history of the event there has been a three-time champion.

Apopka Junior Petey Vergos claimed the individual award for the second year in a row.

Apopka lost to Bayside in the third round of the double elimination tournament, but then then beat Hagerty, Park Vista and Rockledge to meet them again in the finals.

Apopka then beat Bayside two straight matches to win the championship.

Vergos defended his individual title by beating Lake Mary’s Robert Poole in the finals.
