Blue Darters, Mustangs roll to their fourth victories of the season

The Apopka Blue Darters and Wekiva Mustangs both had big wins last Friday night. The Blue Darters defeated the Boone Braves on the road 49-13, and the Mustangs defeated the Olympia Titans 43-7.

Apopka 49, Boone 13

Junior running back Akeem Brown rushed for 203 yards and five touchdowns and the Apopka Blue Darters cruised to a 49-13 victory Friday over the Boone Braves. It was the second straight victory for the Blue Darters heading into district play.

Apopka scored two touchdowns in the first quarter on Brown runs of 13 and four yards, before Boone cut the lead in half with a 2-yard touchdown run by Kenyon Baren. But then the Blue Darters scored 35 unanswered points including a 50-yard touchdown run by Brown before the end of the first half.

The Blue Darters, ranked ninth in the AP State 8-A poll, improved to 4-1 on the season heading into its first district matchup this Friday night at Roger Williams Field on the campus of Apopka High School against the Evans Trojans, who are 1-3 on the season and lost to Winter Park 30-0 last Friday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM. Admission is $6.

Wekiva 43, Olympia 7

Junior quarterback Larry Preston threw for two touchdowns, senior wide receiver Terrance Moore scored on a blocked punt return and a touchdown reception, and the Wekiva Mustangs remained unbeaten with a 43-7 victory over the Olympia Titans.

The Mustangs, playing in their first game in two weeks, dusted off the cobwebs and overcame a slow start and a scoreless first quarter to explode for 36 second-quarter points.

Wekiva, ranked second in the AP State Poll, improved its record to 4-0 on the season and will travel to Winter Garden to face the West Orange Warriors in its first district game of the season. West Orange is 4-1 on the season, coming off a 70-0 victory over Cypress Creek last Friday.
