The Battle of the Badge: Cops vs. Firefighters

Posted

2017 Public Safety Day is this weekend

Public Safety Day is April 15th from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM at the Northwest Recreation Complex (NRC) at 3710 Jason Dwelley Parkway in Apopka.

It is a free event put on by the City of Apopka, which will include demonstrations from the Apopka Police Department’s K9 team, SWAT team, Emergency Response Team, and the Apopka Fire Department. There will also be children’s activities and fingerprinting along with free lunch.

And while it will be a family-friendly festival-like atmosphere, there will also be a competition to decide an age-old question... Who is in better condition - the Apopka Fire or the Apopka Police Departments?

The first annual event will pit the AFD and AFD against each other in a team event that will put that question to rest - at least for a year.

They are calling it the "Battle of the Badge."

The fitness match between Apopka's first responders will be a three-part fitness competition that will include a push-pull challenge, tire flip relay, and a “man down” rescue.

The Battle of the Badge is certain to be an exciting competition for the spectators, and give bragging rights to one of these departments.

Two other events happening at the NRC on April 15th are the 5K Rabbit Run, (which starts at 7:00 AM), and the Easter Extravaganza Egg Hunt (beginning at 9:45 AM).
