Babies arrive at Florida Hospital before Irma

With the storm swirling outside, several newborns came into the world at Florida Hospital locations around Central Florida.

Talya Booker expected her baby to arrive on Sept. 26. But the baby had other plans.

With Hurricane Irma bearing down on Central Florida, Booker have birth to her daughter more than two weeks early. Adeluna Palacios arrived at 9:56 a.m. at Florida Hospital for Women in Orlando.

“The night before the hurricane, she just decided she was coming,” said Booker, who went into labor about 8 p.m. Saturday.

Booker and boyfriend Gabriel Palacios will be staying at the hospital until Tuesday, after the storm has passed and the roads have been cleared, before taking their daughter home to Winter Park.

Little Adeluna, who weighed in at 6 pounds, 6 ounces, was one of several babies born Sunday at Florida Hospital locations around Central Florida. At Florida Hospital Celebration alone, seven babies were born as of Sunday afternoon – with a pair of twins expected later in the day.

Despite the timing of their daughter’s birth, the proud parents didn’t consider naming her Irma – not even as a middle name.

“My dad said he might call her ‘Little Irma,’” Booker said. “But that’s my dad.”
