Apopka Prayer Breakfast Features Alveda King

Alveada King will speak in Apopka on Saturday morning at the Unity Through Prayers breakfast event.

The prayer breakfast is part of a two-day celebration of Black History Month hosted by Congress of Racial Equality. The theme of the celebration is All Lives Matter.

The celebration brings together a coalition of civil rights groups, conservative leaders, pro-life advocates, and fellow Christians in Jacksonville and in Orlando to promote the banner of unity among all races and ethnicities and to focus on equality of all human lives while praying for elimination of all social, ethnic, economic, and denominational biases.

The two day celebration will feature Reverend Dr. Alveda King, a niece of Martin Luther King, as the keynote speaker. Alveda Celeste King is a Director of African American Outreach with Priests for Life, a NAACP member, an American civil rights activist, a Christian minister, a pro-life activist, a conservative, and an author.

Featured guests include Niger Innis and Thuy Lowe of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in all three events.

The celebration kicks-off on Friday, February 12th with an appearance by Dr. Alveda King in Jacksonville for the Celebrate Life event. The Celebrate Life Event will begin at 6:30pm and end at 8:00pm. It will be preceded by a VIP reception starting at 5:30pm and will be at the Salem Center, located at 7235 Bonneval Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32256.

On Saturday, February 13, 2016, an Unity Through Prayers breakfast will be in the Orlando area and will include State Representative Mike Hill. Event venue is at the Apopka Community Center at 519 So. Central Ave., Apopka, FL 32703.

The celebration will conclude with a brief history of the civil rights movement during the 60’s in a Mock Debate between two actors playing Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X with Ms. Alveda King as the moderator. The event will begin at 6PM and continue till 9PM at the University of Central Florida-Pegasus Ballroom in the Student Union.
