Apopka Police asking for help in the shooting of well-known Apopka resident

The Apopka Police Department is looking for multiple persons of interest who may be tied to the shooting of Dexter M. Hughley, 46, of Apopka.

According to the APD, Hughley was shot inside his Orange North Apartment at 943 West Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka on Wednesday night. The suspect(s) fled the scene, and his car was found on 5th Street near Hawthorne Avenue. The car had been intentionally set on fire.

Hughley is a well-known Apopka resident, and frequently went out of his way to help others according to the Apopka Police Department. He is the manager of Wendy's Restaurant on Main Street in Apopka, and was a member of many church choirs. Hughley was shot multiple times and his wounds are potentially life-threatening.

The APD is working active leads, but are still looking for information from the public. Anyone with information is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS, or the Apopka Police Department.
