Florida Highway Patrol Troopers responded last night at approximately 10 PM to a three-car collision involving an Apopka Police Department Officer and an APD cruiser.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Central Avenue and Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka.

A 2008 Chevy Impala driven by Margarito Hernandez, 31 of Orlando, was traveling westbound on OBT in the left turn lane approaching Central Avenue. A 2017 Honda 4R driven by Leslie Cochran, 50 of Leesburg, was also traveling westbound on OBT in the left turn lane in front of Hernandez. The APD cruiser, driven by Officer Ariel Carrion was traveling eastbound on OBT, in the left through lane. As Hernandez approached, she failed to slow down and struck the rear of Cochran's Honda. Hernandez then traveled around Cochran and attempted to make a left turn on Central Avenue and pulled into the direct path of Officer Carrion, who was unable to avoid the collision with her and struck the right side of the Chevy.

Hernandez was ticketed for careless driving, and for driving without a valid driver's license. According to the FHP, Hernandez has never obtained a driver's license.

According to the FHP's Collision Report, Hernandez was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Cochran was transported to Florida Hospital Apopka with minor injuries.

Officer Carrion suffered minor injuries according to the report, and it was not disclosed if he was transported to a hospital.
