Posted

Leaders of the Apopka Ministerial Alliance were introduced to The Douglass Leadership Institute's “Turning The Tide” Initiative yesterday.

The Douglass Leadership Institute (DLI), is a national education and public policy organization with representatives and groups in eight battleground states across the United States. DLI’s philosophy is based on the sanctity of life, the promotion of free market ideas and limited government.

The “Turning the Tide” initiative is an eight-state outreach program that provides targeted events and specific training in 72 forums on the black family, criminal justice and economic renewal. The eight states are Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Details about the Initiative were presented by Gloreatha “Glo” Smith. DLI's Florida State Director. In 2014, Smith lost to Rep. Corrine Brown for the 5th District seat of the US Congress which then included a large portion of Apopka.

"It was a great event," said Smith. " What was important is that we were able to share our vision with the pastors who can now go back to their congregations and fellow pastors and further our message."

DLI plans to return to Apopka between March and August to host a prayer breakfast and workshops that focus on the black family, criminal justice reform, and entrepreneurship.
