Friday Night Preview:

District 8A-4

#9 Apopka Blue Darters (4-1) vs. Evans Trojans (1-3)

#2 Wekiva Mustangs (4-0) at West Orange Warriors (4-1)

The Apopka Blue Darters and Wekiva Mustangs both had big wins last Friday night. The Blue Darters defeated the Boone Braves 49-13, and the Mustangs defeated the Olympia Titans 43-7. Both teams also maintained their Associated Press Top 10 Poll rankings, but none of that matters more than their 8-A District 4 performances, which begin tonight.

The winner of the district automatically qualifies for the postseason playoffs. No other team has an automatic berth, so these three games played between Apopka, Evans, Wekiva and West Orange are the most important on their 10-game schedules.

The Blue Darters, ranked ninth in the AP State 8-A poll, improved to 4-1 on the season heading into its first district matchup this Friday night against the Evans Trojans, who are 1-3 on the season and lost to Winter Park 30-0 last Friday. The game is at Roger Williams Field at Apopka High School.

Junior running back Akeem Brown rushed for 203 yards and five touchdowns and the Apopka Blue Darters cruised to a 49-13 victory Friday over the Boone Braves. It was the second straight victory for the Blue Darters.

Wekiva, ranked second in the AP State Poll and the defending 8-A District 4 champion, improved its record to 4-0 on the season and will travel to Winter Garden to face the West Orange Warriors in both teams first district game of the season. West Orange is 4-1, coming off a 70-0 victory over Cypress Creek last Friday.

Junior quarterback Larry Preston threw for two touchdowns, senior wide receiver Terrance Moore scored on a blocked punt return and a touchdown reception, and the Wekiva Mustangs routed the Olympia Titans 43-7.

Kickoff in both games is scheduled for 7 PM. Admission is $6.
