Something Fishy serves God, good food, family, and community

Terence Philips had a lifelong dream to open a seafood restaurant. The only problem was that he had no experience, and in the restaurant business experience is often king.

But Philips would not be thwarted by conventional wisdom.

He did research on restaurants. He reached out to people with experience for advice. He relied on family support, prayers, and hard work.

And that combination of tactics proved to be a strategy for success.

Terence is living his dream.

Philips' restaurant Something Fishy opened its doors in April of 2016, and Apopka has been in love with them ever since.

Instead of mirroring itself after other restaurants, Something Fishy is a reflection of the Phillips family's gatherings and celebrations over the years. The menu offers a variety of selections including Fish Tacos and Crab Cakes.

"We wanted our menu to be a little bit different, we add a little flair and offer salads, fresh seafood that's grilled, seared and of course fried," Philips said. "We are also looking to add gluten free options to our menu as well."

Philips' wife Patrice works at Grace Medical Home, which is a non-profit organization that specializes in providing medical care for the working uninsured but is also a part of Something Fishy as well as their three children - Christopher, Gabrielle, and Kenneth.

And it is perhaps from Patrice's roots in non-profits that the Philips have a heart for giving.

Something Fishy has selected two local charities to support - The New Journey Youth Center in Apopka and Lift Disability Network.

"Our restaurant allows us the opportunity to give back to the community," she said. "Our mission is to serve good food, serve God, family, and community."

Stop in. Enjoy Something Fishy. And support a local charity. It's in the Wekiva Riverwalk (2107 E Semoran Boulevard in Apopka).
