27th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive is tomorrow

27TH ANNUAL STAMP OUT HUNGER® FARM SHARE AND NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS PARTNER AGAIN TO FEED FLORIDA’S HUNGRY – MAY 11

On Saturday, May 11th, Americans will be able to partner up for a united cause: to Stamp Out Hunger®. For the second consecutive year, Farm Share, a 28-year-old food nonprofit that serves all of Florida, will work hand-in-hand with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) as the official 2019 Florida food charity partner. Participants in all 50 states can take partake in the nation’s largest one-day food drive to help feed Americans in need by leaving non-perishable goods outside their mailboxes.

For 26 years, the NALC has teamed up with nonprofits nationwide via Stamp Out Hunger, helping more than 50 million people in America who suffer from hunger.

“The Farm Share team is thrilled to partner with Stamp Out Hunger for the second year in a row to help our neighbors throughout the state of Florida,” said Farm Share Chief Operating Officer Stephen Shelley. “We invite everyone to participate and spread the news so that we can make an even bigger impact this year in the lives of people and families struggling with food insecurity.”

On May 11th, letter carriers and volunteers will collect donations so Farm Share, in conjunction with its 2,000 partners across Florida, can distribute the food where it is most needed. Farm Share is based in Homestead with operations in Jacksonville, Quincy, Pompano Beach, and Florida City. During last year’s Stamp Out Hunger, more than 10 million pounds of food were collected in Florida, continuing its status as the No. 1 state for cans collected over the last decade.

Known for its mission to make sure no Floridian goes hungry and that no food goes to waste, Farm Share is often celebrated for its longstanding relationships with Florida farmers to retrieve imperfect, yet perfectly good, produce that would otherwise be thrown away due to aesthetic blemishes, and distribute it back into Florida communities. In 2018, Farm Share delivered more than 55 millions pounds of food to more than 17.5 million households.
