Last Thursday afternoon the four Democratic candidates running to be the next member of Congress from Florida’s 10th Congressional District met for their first debate at a meeting of the Tiger Bay of Central Florida.
Former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings, Former Florida Democratic Party Chairman Bob Poe, State Senator Geraldine Thompson, and Attorney Fatima Rita Fahmy all made their case on why they should represent the people. The majority of the discussion revolved around the issue of gun control, after the Pulse Nightclub shootings that took place earlier this month, killing 49 people and injuring 53 more.
All of the candidates supported a ban on assault weapons, prohibiting individuals on FBI watch-lists from buying firearms, and would have supported the Congressional sit-in held in Washington last week.
